consultantsMeasuring printing performance

Adding value to your printing business

Have you ever wondered how your cost rates compare to other printing companies? Or what the market rates are for your machinery? Or what is meant by OEE? Do you know how much gross profit you need today to break even? Would you know how to measure AVU's?

If the answer to these questions is: "yes", "yes", "yes", "no" and "no", then our printing performance analysis might be just what the doctor ordered. This informal session is conducted over your boardroom table and high amongst the topics of discussion will be your hourly cost rates. How do you calculate them? Do you use absorption costing, or marginal costing? Do you know the difference? Have you ever thought of using 'fixed gross profit' pricing? We'll also advise you on how your current rates compare to the competition - and how you can extract much more value from your cost rates with just a few surprisingly simple tweaks.

Overall equipment effectiveness - OEE - is still not understood by some printing companies. We'll give you a three point plan that makes it easy for you to grasp the ideas more clearly, with an interactive graphical illustration of all the key points. This will allow you to keep on top of efficiency. We'll also tell you what Vision In Print recommend and cover the process step by step.

Corporate and social responsibility - CSR - another concept that baffles a lot of printers. Many think it is just about reducing greenhouse gases and wasting less paper to help protect the environment. Whilst this part is true, there is much, much more to CSR and there are bits that can work in your favour. We can give you ideas that might help you to preserve your margins when dealing with large corporations - all of whom have robust CSR policies themselves.

Added value units - AVU's - are an incredibly simple way of measuring value in any given job. We will show you how to calculate your company's AVU and then how to apply it in everyday life. It's eye-opening stuff. Tracking contribution and / or added value is another way in which you can keep track of your business performance. We can provide free spreadsheets that allow your company to analyse the daily and monthly recovery of gross profit or added value and then compare this to your budget. You can then, if you wish, link the surpluses to a staff bonus scheme and perhaps reward sales people by GP rather than turnover? How this is all done is explained in full on the day.

Finally, we will turn to the heart of your business, your estimating function. We'll show you the lightning speed of PDQ and how it could revolutionise your company's commercial department.

How much does it cost?

The cost of our printing performance analysis service, which lasts a full day, is £950 + VAT.
